Energy recovery of MSW (IDAE report)
Report Summary:
The energy source from waste cannot be ignored. In summary, the reasons would be:
• The country's energy deficit should make it possible to take advantage of everything that is technically, environmentally and economically proven that can be safely recovered from energy.
• The generation has a very high level of availability.
• The quantification estimated in the present study is important.
• CDRs or CSRs can be an important energy source to be used in co-incineration facilities.
As a qualitative summary, the key points can be:
1. After applying the most appropriate waste management models for each situation and trying to optimize the levels of prevention, reuse and recycling, we will have to foresee how to manage the last fraction.
2. The common goal should be to eliminate the smallest fraction possible. The European trend is to try to minimize landfill management.
3. Finding technically suitable landfill locations is and will be increasingly complicated, taking into account, among other aspects, the demographic pressure on the territory.
4. There is proven technology in Europe to safely recover the last fraction of waste from energy.
